Location

Fynder! is a nearby app, so location is the one permission that matters. Here is exactly how it works.

You're asked, with context, before iOS asks. The app first shows you a screen explaining why location helps — then hands off to the standard iOS permission dialog. The permission Fynder! requests is While Using the App, and the system prompt says exactly what the app does:

Fynder! uses your location only while you use the app, to show the most relevant places near you.

Foreground only. Fynder! has no background location capability. When the app is closed, it cannot see where you are.

Rounded before it leaves your phone. When the app asks our server for places, it first snaps your coordinates to a documented grid roughly 110 metres wide. Ranking, travel times, and everything else are computed from that grid cell — never from your exact fix. One practical consequence: a cached answer can be safely shared by different people standing in the same cell, and no one's precise position is ever echoed back to anyone else.

Coarser still in logs and analytics. Server logs and analytics events carry, at most, a location cell kilometres across (geohash-5) — never street-level coordinates. Position data is used to answer your request, then not persisted in logs.

Emergency mode is measured even more carefully. Analytics for Emergency mode are aggregate only and are never joined to any device or user profile. And to be plain about the mode itself: Fynder is not a substitute for emergency services.

Never sold. Your location is used to rank places around you. That is its only job.

On your device vs. on our servers

On your device — and only there:

• Saved places
• Recently viewed places
• Your chosen search area and recent area searches
• Settings: language, appearance, currency

Saved places are stored as place references plus Fynder!'s own metadata — not as copies of Google's content. Delete the app and all of this is gone.

On our servers — briefly, and not about you:

• Short-lived result caches. Search responses are cached for minutes, keyed on the ~110 m grid cell — not on you. There is no per-user store to key them on.
• Place identifiers. We keep place IDs (which restaurant, which pharmacy) so results stay fast and fresh. A place ID says something about İstanbul, not about you.
• Operational analytics. Event counts keyed by a device token — an identifier tied to your installation, not to a name or account, because Fynder! has neither. Events carry coarse location cells at most, never exact coordinates.

There is no server-side profile of you to browse, breach, or subpoena — because none is built.

Third parties

Fynder! shows data from a small, named set of providers — as-is, with attribution.

Google. Live place information — ratings, opening hours, reviews, photos — comes from Google and is shown with visible attribution, including review and photo author credits. Google provides a limited set of reviews and photos per place; Fynder! shows what Google provides and adds review-volume context. It does not read or analyze every review, and it never scrapes Google Maps. When you search for a place or an area, that search is fulfilled through Google's place services via Fynder!'s server — using the rounded grid position, never your exact fix.

No social platforms. The "Viral now" section is an editorial, curated selection. Fynder! does not collect or scrape data from TikTok or any social platform.

What we never do

• Never track you in the background.
• Never store your location as a history.
• Never send your exact coordinates to analytics — coarse cells only.
• Never require an account to use discovery.
• Never build a hidden profile. Rankings come from place quality, travel time, and opening hours — not from a model of you.
• Never sell or rent your data.
• Never scrape Google, TikTok, or any other platform.
• Never keep a permanent offline copy of place data — when we can't show live data, we say so.
• Never let one person's position leak to another. Everything a cached result contains is computed from a shared grid cell, not from anyone's exact location.

Your choices

Say no to location — and still use Fynder!. Decline the permission and the app offers the alternative directly:

Explore without sharing your live location. Pick a city or an area and Fynder! will search around it.

Choose any city, district, or address; Fynder! searches around that point instead of you. A banner keeps this honest while it's active:

Using a manually chosen area, not your live location.

Share approximate location. iOS lets you grant location without precise accuracy. Fynder! works with it and tells you the trade-off in-app: results may sit a little farther out.

Change your mind anytime. Location permission can be granted, reduced, or revoked in iOS Settings whenever you like — the app links you straight there.

Clear as you go. Remove any saved place. Clear recent area searches with one tap.

Delete everything. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data — which is where your data lives. Because Fynder! keeps your data on your device, export is equally simple: it is already in your hands.

Fynder! is subject to KVKK (Türkiye) and GDPR. The rights those laws give you — access, deletion, objection — apply to the little we hold.
